Janet L. Mancini.
List, I along with my twin brother John, was placed in The Children's Home that was located on 141 Oakland Ave. Uniontown in 1957. My birthmother died a few days later. We lived there 11 months. Then in 1958 went to live with foster parents who became our adopted parents on Christmas Eve, 1958. This is when we were 5 years of age. 47 years later I felt the desire to go back to the home. I have discovered much and have been able to contact others through my research that were in the home. I am writing a book on this history. If anyone would remember this home I would like to be contacted. I now know there was a Children's Home on Highland Ave. in 1915 - 1917, 1917 - 1919 on 80 McClelandtown Rd. then in 1919 it moved to 141 Oakland Ave. Uniontown, PA. The building stills stands today. It was run by The Children's Aid Society. This home was a place where children could be placed for short periods of time, depending on the family situation. In my case my birth mother had it in the records that we be placed there to have a good life with a good family. And both of my mother's prayers were answered. This home closed in 1958, dissolved in 1990.

I have been doing some research on the Gard Family of the area. Jeremiah Gard had some land in Union Township next to the farm of Thomas Gaddis. He also built a mill on Redstone Creek known as the Hutchinson mill. Does anyone know where this land and/or the mill is located and have either a map or pictures of the places, or more information on them and the Gard family. The Gards, who moved west from New Jersey, stopped at Jeremiah's place for a few months before they moved on to Symmes Purchase in Ohio. Thanks.

I have been desperately trying to find a picture of my family's home at 48 W. Fayette Street, Uniontown, Pa. It was built in the late 1800's and was the first house built on Fayette st. (US40). It was torn down in 1964 when I was 15. Can anyone help, please! My great Grandmother and Great-aunt ran a milliner's shop on one side of the house. Thank you, Anne Smith sasmith2728@verizon.net

The need to publicize something this beautiful is obvious. Wherever it is I want to know so that I can add it to my 2009 agenda that includes a trip to the area. What a great shot! Meanwhile, best wishes and God bless.

I believe the postcard may have been mislabeled.. They often chose the significant town of their choice anywhere in the area. It looks like that old stone brick house that your society bought in Connellsville. It also looks like some other houses I've seen in the Uniontown area that have been razed within the last fifty years for whatever reason.

I am a member of the Connellsville Historical Society.Just in the last week members have been made aware of Braddock's old stone house and have been trying to get an exact location of where it was built. The information on your site indicates North Union twsp which covers a large area. Thank you for any information you might have on the subject.

Sarah: Have you done your family genalogy and connected them with the Crawfords? I have done quite a bit of research on the Wm Crawford and his siblings, parents and half siblings. If you work your way backwards in your family history, you should be able to see a connection if there is one. Send me a few of your Crawford ancestor's names and I will see if I have them on file. snshine8@cvzoom.net

Dear reader, I am seeking a portrait of the Rev. Leonard H. Burn who served as rector of the Trinity during the 1920s. Any information about his career in the Diocese of Pittsburgh would be appreciated as well. He came to my attention serving as an assistant priest at Trinity Parish Church, Seattle, Washington, 1917-21. TIA. Please respond directly to boyd-gould@comcast.net.

The only sure fire way of proving or disputing that kind of rumor is with DNA. Any thing else is hearsay.

One of the most engaging documentaries in years has been airing between 8 - 10 PM on PBS. It goes colorfully into the history and lives effected by World War II. Even people who aren't normally captivated by history are enjoying this show.

Of course, the democrats ran the county back then, too.

There were an awful lot of murders back then! Good post, I enjoyed it. Nice to see money laundering isn't a new invention either.

The Meason house was up for sale on Ebay, providing the owner pay to move the 1700s mansion. I don't know what is wrong with some people's mindset in this area.
